Conquering the Darkest Night

In a strange land, my journey began,

At ten, the weight of others' words I'd scan,

Unaware of the seeds their opinions sowed,

Their insults, slurs, and bullying bestowed.

Through school's halls, a battleground I tread,

My clothes, my hair, my tongue, they said,

I bore the burden, kept my honor's crest,

Academic triumph, my driving quest.

In middle school, the darkest days unfurled,

Their rude remarks, a ceaseless world,

Yet, in solitude, I found my way,

Through reading and writing, I'd hold dismay.

My skin grew thick, armor against their taunts,

But anger and fights, my world it haunts,

A survival game in a sea of four thousand,

Challenging, overwhelming, lonely, unbounded.

Amidst the pain, I learned to stand tall,

Courteous and strong, I defied the fall,

Becoming somewhat popular, it seemed,

Yet, beneath the surface, I still dreamed.

In a moment of despair, I almost gave in,

A bottle of aspirin, a dangerous sin,

But within me, a voice cried out,

I fought the darkness, dispelled the doubt.

In the Bronx, I found a friend to confide,

On the train to Queens, my feelings I tried,

Writing, my refuge through the darkest night,

An outlet for pain, my guiding light.

A therapist's aid, a missed opportunity,

Could it have altered my life's trajectory?

Regrets, I hold none, for my path I embrace,

Each experience shaped my unique space.

Through summer camp in Tennessee's hold,

Volleyball, break-dancing, my joy untold,

Positive experiences, they left their mark,

Nurturing passions, a light in the dark.

A dreamer, a lover, I cherish deep,

Past experiences, their lessons I keep,

To reset my life, I'd leave unchanged,

For fate's grand plan, I'm wholly arranged.

Love deeply, until betrayal's sting,

Loyalty, manners, to virtues I cling,

I've conquered hurdles, shattered chains,

In freedom's embrace, my soul remains.

To those in struggle, I extend my hand,

Seek outlets, break the numbing band,

Reach out to others, let stigma wane,

You're not alone, release the pain.

Embrace the truth, let hope ignite,

Together, we'll conquer the darkest night,

For in unity, strength will thrive,

Let's break the stigma, let's all survive.
